D2D has found numberless ways through running and cycling activities, to help the less privileged children and has inspired thousands of veteran and first-time runners and cyclist to take part in the D2D event for the cause.  D2D Chennai Marathon mission is to contribute and support the underprivileged children for their medical treatment and education.

The team of D2D has raised quite a substantial amount till date towards assisting rehabilitation children health care and in support of education.  Every rupee that has been raised through D2D Chennai Marathon has supported various causes specifically for education of children,  Rehabilitation of Cerebral Palsy affected children, Organ donation,  building classrooms and toilet blocks especially for the girl children.

The 7th edition of D2D 2019 will raise funds for the 2nd consecutive year for Cancer Institute (WIA), Adyar for the children affected by Cancer towards their treatment. The funds will be utilised by Cancer Institute (WIA) for the children who cannot afford treatment.

The Cancer Institute was founded by Dr. Muthu Lakshmi Reddy, India’s first woman medical doctor, in the year 1952 and the foundation stone was laid down by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime minister.  This institute is the first in the country to introduce Medical Physics and the Nuclear medicines departments.

Dr.V.Shanta, Chairman, Cancer Institute (WIA), Adyar has been instrumental in getting government support to the Cancer patients in terms of waiving duty on the cancer drugs and concessions on their train travel.  Along with treating cancer, the Cancer Institute has been instrumental in education of various specialisations including M.Sc. in Medical Physics, Courses in Medical Oncology, Radiotherapy, Radio Diagnosis, Molecular Oncology, Nuclear Medicine among others.

As you are aware Cancer Institute (WIA)  is a public charitable voluntary institute dedicated to the care of cancer for the last 64 years.  The Institute is a comprehensive cancer centre comprising of a hospital of 535 beds, a research division, a college of oncological sciences and a division of preventive oncology and provides state of art treatment to one and all.  It has both a National and International stature.
